Folders Can Be Fun!!!!

Here's an art folder that I created while substitute teaching at LA High School in Los Angeles.
I pulled it out to assist a "sista" on a project for her students.
This is a great project for kids (& adults) of all ages!

A Busy Morning

We had a wonderful monsoon rain last night, hopefully we'll have another this afternoon and into the evening. It truly brings everything to life. The bees are out, the birds are out, and the plant life is looking well nourished. I'm hoping that the hollyhocks germinate and that more of the veggies come up as well.

AAgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Sometimes Seeing/Painting Can Really Be a Challenge!

I am learning a tremendous amount in attempting to paint this piece.
What I perceive, preconceived notions and lastly - fantasy.
This is, from left to right: Erica Harrison, Linda Lowery & Tanya Caldwell.
My intention was to turn them into elvish fairies, and I still may - but just getting the basics on canvas with a newer medium (for me) - this time around - has taken ................ fill in the blank.
But, I'm learning - and, learning is usually messy. Most of the time, I like for things to look simple; I don't want people to see that I struggle - this approach to life is simply pride and ego.
So, tah-tah, to pride and ego - at least today!
This is the messiness of learning in Art!!!!!

New Birdies, New Shots of NuNu & The Turtle is Back!

The new kids - they're on top of the front porch light fixture.
He's back!!! He also eat a dead mouse yesterday and left it next to our back door sage plant. Yuck...

This lighting was gorgeous, I couldn't resist taking another picture of "The Nu."

The same lighting situation here - gorgeious, just like Nikki Nu.

It's been hot here, but not as hot and humid as Los Angeles; or many other parts of the country.
I've been very busy although not yet working this summer.
I've planted some veggies and they're actually growing out here in the desert.
A miracle!!!

I've wanted to do a bunch of stuff outside but it's just too hot.
I guess I'll have to finish all of the artistic projects instead!

New Babies on the Way

Mama thrasher just raised & released three babies a little better than a week ago.
Now, she's back to work with three more!
Let's all wish she and her babies the best.
More babies are being raised on the front porch on our light fixture.
I think that that mama is a type of yellow breasted wren.
Her nest is tall and there have been quite a few scraps. Many birds in the area are vying for the same territory.
One morning on the front porch, there had been a horrible dispute. The nest was partially knocked apart and feathers were all over the sidewalk/patio.

The Babies Are Growing Up!!!!

The babies are making their way out of the nest!
One of the children was out hopping around on the cactus boughs.
It's amazing how quickly they grow up and become agile.

Here we are in Sant Fe - our band - performing for the Human Rights Torch Relay in support of a FREE TIBET and in acknowledgment of the multiple human rights abuses taking place at this moment in China. We opened the event at 10:15 am and performed for 30 + minutes.
It was an honor and a privilege.

Mama & Babies in Our Backyard Cactus - Nature is Amazing.....

At this time, Mama was away from from her brood. But, she has them safely tucked away in the boughs of this extremely vicious cactus. Even the roadrunners - who are extremely carnivorous, hanging around, pacing back & forth, they have not been able - at least so far, to get to these little ones.

Finally, the weekend......

Dan, Nikita and I went to Placitas, (a little town just north of us) this morning. We went to visit the Sandia Man Caves. They are touted to be sacred vortex areas and were inhabited by Indigenous peoples over 10,000 years ago. Inside the caves are lava tubes, some not more than about a foot in height, but, where it is totally possible for a person to climb or slither inside. Dan took all of these pictures.

Mesa in Jemez

My Sis Linda took this photo of one of the mesas in Jemez, NM while visiting. This was taken during the same trip as the Soda Dam & Spence Hot Springs. All are located in the Jemez Mountains.

Jemez is a very diverse and sacred space.
